After the match on Saturday night, five drunken idiots broke into the Musée d’Orsay. One of them punched Claude Monet's "The Argenteuil Bridge" painted in 1874. Remember back in the day when these fools used to beat each other up. It's a shame they've moved on to items of importance and worth.

The people that did this will be caught (because really, how smart can you be if you punch a painting) and they will share the same public shame as Rodrigo Rafael Ortega who, after the 1998 World Cup between France and Mexico, urinated on the 'eternal flame' in front of the Arc de' Triumph extinguishing it. Almost 10 years later his name is still known.

So, to the drunken slob who did this, once you are caught you will have the dubious honor of never getting laid again. Good luck with all that.

Do you think this guy woke up the next day and regretted everything? Or did he brag about it to his buddies? There's probably some kind of personality litmus test in there.

Also, didn't alarms go off at the museum?

I hate to be the wet towel, but the puncher could be very intelligent; in these topsy-turvy postmodern days, he might have been making a critical statement about the painting. Then again, academic types also aren't necessarily good at escaping the law. So either way I guess he likely lacks the particular smarts that allows one to avoid incarceration.

I hasten to add that, ironically, the painting itself also lacks said smarts, seeing as it was incarcerated in the museum. Or is it just coincidentally, not ironically? And now I'm wondering, maybe the punch was a statement about the work's incarcerated condition; maybe he was making the work his bitch? If it was a statement on that level, then I think there *would* be irony involved if the punchers ends up in the clink for his act.

That of course begs the question, "Where were you late saturday night Mr. Sparkane?"

to find this blog was the best thing that happened to me today... I laughed at least twice during the last past 5 minutes and many more times during the minutes before, I learned that piggeons where missing toes and right now I read a totally unknown indiomatic (unknown for me I mean)... "the wet towel"... I get the idea but I not sure to find the french equivalent... "je déteste jouer les rabats joie mais..." seems all right, no ?
